07/09/2024 - Beverley Town Mayor, David Boynton and Mayoress Tina Wilson, seen speaking with Beverley Men in Shed member John Kyle. The photo was taken at an event at Toll Gavel Church in Beverley.

It was another busy day for the Shed members in attendance, as people asked about the Shed and the projects with which we are involved. Some members of the public also picked up some wonderful items which had been made in the Shed.

28/08/2024 - David Ryley, Tesco Beverley Community Champion, presenting a grant cheque of £1,000.00 to chairman Dick Ellett and other Shed members, under the Tesco Stronger Starts Community Grant Scheme.

The grant, voted for bu users of Tesco in Beverley, will be used to install a ceiling in the Shed to try and make a more comfortable working environment for members in the Shed. Being based in a former retail greenhouse, the temperatures vary from below freezing to over 50 degrees centigrade!

14/08/2024 - Beverley Men in Sheds and Risby Homes have entered into a partnership whereby the Shed will provide birdhouses, bat-boxes and owl-houses for Risby’s ongoing and future developments.

Pictured are some of the items handed over so far.

10/08/2024 - Beverley Men in Sheds attended the Humber Fire and Rescue Service Open Day at Beverley Fire Station. It was a busy day with lots of visitors to our stall to get information regarding the Shed and to buy some of the items which were for sale. Another wonderful day in glorious weather.

27/07/2024 - That man, Karl Sandor, has been at it again. Is there no end to this man’s talents? Not that we have seen so far!

19/07/2024 - Several members of Beverley Men in Sheds escaped through a concealed tunnel and continued their escape on the canal-boat Tilly. Fortunately, it was a return trip and they were rounded up and returned to the Shed. Upon questioning, they said that it was a wonderful trip, the crew were great and the weather very sunny. A fully authorised trip has now been arranged for October.

13/07/2024 - On a very wet and windy day, Beverley Men in Sheds were in attendance at the Wawne Village Fete.

The members managed to survive through a mixture of pizza, beer and belly-dancing, although we would point out that no members were involved in the latter. Again, the Shed stall attracted lots of interest from the public

28/06/2024 - Here is the marvel, known as Karl Sandor, with the 16 image board of birds presented to Beverley in Bloom for their wildlife garden at Beverley Railway Station. All of the birds were painted by Karl.

03/06/2024 - Carl, always our keenest member, keeping busy by cutting timber for an order of bird-boxes.

13/05/2024 - We welcomed to the Shed Claire White from Beverley Manor Nursery School who made a wonderful donation to the Shed to thank members Karl Sandor & Kevin Sheehan for making some toy-making jigs for the pupils.

12/04/2024 - On this day, we lost Trustee and stalwart of the Shed. Ken Hawkins. He passed away in hospital surrounded by his familey. Ken was a driving force in the Shed, following his careers in the RAF and Humberside Fire and Rescue Service. He is greatly missed at the Shed.

On 31st November 2023 the Shed had its official reopening following the laying of the concrete floor and the complete rebuild of the Shed. The reopening was performed by Rachel Meadows, the Volunteer & Community Development Manager at UK Men’s Shed Association. Chairman, Dick Ellett, performed the MC role, extolling the importance of the Shed to the members, the work carried out for the community groups which ask for our help and, importantly welcoming the attendees. Our guests included David Boynton, Deputy Mayor of Beverley, representatives of East Riding Council, Woodmansey Parish Council, the NHS, Guide Dogs for the Blind, Molescroft Nature Network, Oldroyd’s Corner, HWRA and many of the suppliers who help the Shed survive. We were also glad to welcome many members of other Sheds in the Humber region. We received some wonderful comments and feedback concerning the work done in the Shed and the importance of the Shed to its members.

Here are some photos from the day itself.

The Shed recently held an open day and were delighted by the number of people who came and showed their interest in the work carried out by the members. and the projects in which we are involved. As a result of the open day we have attracted new members, the lifeblood of the Shed.

We were also fortunate enough to raise funds from the sale of Shed-made items, hot and cold drinks and second-hand books.

Following the laying of our concrete floor and the complete rebuild of the Shed, Beverley Men in Sheds will be holding two Open Days.

These will take place on Sunday 5th November and Sunday 3rd December, from 10:30am to 3:30pm.

Come along and have a tour of the Shed, have a cuppa, a chat with members of the Shed and see what work we do for ourselves and the wider community.

Hopefully, we will be able to entice some more men and women to join us!

A walk through Beverley Men in Sheds.

As the re-modelling of the Shed nears completion, we would advise that we will be having an official re-opening event and then an Open Day for visitors to come to the Shed to find out what we are about.

These two events will hopefully take place in September, but keep an eye out for further announcements, on here or our Facebook page, confirming dates.

As rebuilding of the Shed continues, following the laying of a concrete floor, we have got some time to finally update the website. Apologies that this has taken so long.

So what has been happening? In order to make room for the concrete floor to be laid, we had to completely dismantle the Shed and remove everything from the occupied area. This took us a few weeks, as we had to dismantle the dividing walls, take up the pallet floor in the machine room, put the power tools and machinery in storage and, most importantly, re-site the kitchen and sitting area. You need to be able to discuss plans over a tea or coffee.

The floor was laid at the beginning of March 2023. Given the size of the slab, we let it cure for a couple of weeks. Then we started to paint the floor. That may sound an obvious thong to do, but we were fortunate enough to be able to do it with specialist floor paint, rollers and paint buckets supplied, free of charge by AkzoNobel the owners of Dulux. Once the floor had dried, we then started the process of rebuilding the Shed. This has taken a lot longer than it did to dismantle. We had hoped that the process would be finished by the end of June, but the work will carry on inti July. Once completed, we will host a re-opening event and then an open day to show people around the new shed.
